The smallest piece of metal, wood, stone or bone picked up on the spot was a pretext to occupy the hands and the mind to escape from the ambient tension and pass the time.
Sometimes clumsy and naive creations, but also real little masterpieces: vases, letter openers, inkwells, rings, pendants...
