Son of a photographer, Olivier Berthelot has traveled extensively and shared his encounters through photography and film. He trained in the field with M. Dauber and J.-M. Bertrand (La vallée des loups), then at the Ardèche-Images documentary workshop. Since the age of 20, he has traveled the globe, bringing back notes, sounds and images, and has learned to share his view of the world and its people. He has spent long periods of time in the countries he describes, forging relationships and experiencing powerful encounters. In his films and books, Olivier Berthelot offers a humanistic, poetic and questioning vision of the world.

A traveler-filmmaker, he is also a freerider in his spare time, and has shot a short film on paragliding, Les accros de la voltige. Olivier Berthelot also directed the doc Portugal, un balcon sur l'océan.

A specialist in Turkey, which he has been visiting since 1978, he has learned Turkish and is as at home among the people of Istanbul as he is among the nomads of the Taurus. He has written three books on the country and directed three feature-length documentaries: Turkey, recounting the originality of Turkish culture; Istanbul, faits et reflets, a sensitive and human vision of Istanbul; and Cappadocia, on a Turkish carpet, an intimate discovery of an extraordinary region.
